Sponsor, or Adopt a Horse
(pictures below)
Sponsor:
Some of our horses are terminally ill or horses
cannot be placed because of health reasons. Some are just waiting to find the perfect adoptive home. We are seeking sponsors
to help care for these animals. ANY DONATION IS VERY APPRECIATED! (some horses take medication which exceeds
$200 a month- see Peant Pony, below. He is on Cipex, Lama Saver, Devil's Claw, Glucosamine, and Hoof Supplement for severe
founder).
Carrot Sponsor: $25 will worm
a horse and provide a halter.
Apple Sponsor: $50 will vaccinate
a horse (inital dose)
Sugar Sponsor: $100 will provide
hay for a horse for one month.
If this is a gift for someone, we can also send a
gift card and photo of the horse to be sponsored.
Visa and Master Card are accepted (see link below).
Adoption:
Meadow Haven's mission is to rehabilitate the horses who need
it, and adopt out healthy animals to loving families who meet Meadow Haven's requirements. We will try to add pictures
as we get them, although it is very difficult to do since many are adopted immediately by people who fill out an application
form and go on our waiting list. We do not adopt to anyone without an application on file. Our procedure is to call anyone
one who looks like a good match before posting the horse here. About 90% of our horses are adopted this way, so if your
serious about adopting, please fill in an application form (see side bar) and give us as much detailed information as
possible about the horse you are seeking (breed, discipline, maximum or minimum age accepted, etc.).
In order to adopt, you must be an approved home-
1. Have adaquate shelter and pasture for the animals,
2. Supply 3 references for consideration- one should
be a veterinarian if possible
3. Be financially able to care for the animal.
4. Have good, safe fencing and shelter.
We give applicants 1st opportunity to
adopt the horses before advertising them.
DO NOT JUST LEAVE YOUR NUMBER AND DESCRIPTION
OF WHAT YOU WANT ON OUR ANSWERING MACHINE- FILL OUT AN APPLICATION.
We often do not get to update this list for horses
for adoption- if you wish to be called when a new arrive comes in that suits your profile, please fill in an application
That is the only way we can contact you (see sidebar).
We can accept Visa and Master Card for any donations, adoptions,
and sponsorship (click the button below). Thanks for your interest!

| Bingo, pictured here, went on to be a champion jumping pony in Dallas! |
You can help us save money- It is long distance for us to return almost all calls. Please consider trying
us back later if you cannot reach us. We average 20 calls a day to return and it is very expensive.
As you realize, it is very expensive
to rehabilitate our horses. When they first enter the sanctuary they require worming, hoof care, vet services, vaccinations,
etc. Every horse costs the sanctuary at least $150 minimum the first day. Medication and special feed can easily add up to
over $200 per horse per month. We do not give horses away, as we have to cover these expenses. Our adoption fees often
do not cover our expenses for many injured horses and many horses cannot be adopted due to expensive medications they require
daily.
You can sponsor a horse below
by clicking on the secure site icon under the photos to make a credit card donation and get an instant tax reciept! Thank
you for your support.
Why Do We Charge Adoption Fees?
Most of the horses we receive require a great deal of care before being offered
to the public. Horses receive the following:
Vaccines (VEWT / Rabies/ West Nile (2).............$75
Ivermectin wormer (2).............................................$25
6 day panaquer pack...............................................$60
Teeth Floated (power float with seditive)...........$150
Vet Exam & Trip Fee.................................................$60
Hoofs Trimmed..........................................................$30/ 6 weeks
Transport Costs........................................................$50-$100
Vitamins and Feed Supplements (vary)..............$50-$150/mo*
Feed and Hay (vary)................................................$130/mo*
*(average stay is 3-6 mos. at the sanctuary before placement)
We receive no grants or government funding so we must get adoption fees to pay
expences. Often, in addition to the charges above, there are xrays or medications for the horse exceeding $300 on average.
Our horses are assessed, retrained or medicated if needed, and adopted with complete paperwork on thier progress.
We request a minimum of $200 for a companion horse & a minimum of $500
for a riding horse. Depending on the level of training and pedigree of the horse we may request more to defray the bills
on an injuried horse in our care who cannot be adopted.
Please do not ask for a FREE horse.
If you cannot afford to make a reasonable donation, you cannot afford to care
for it properly! Horses cost an average of $100 a month on private land, or $250 at a boarding stable (plus regualar shoeing,
worming and vet care!). Please make careful consideration before aquiring a horse. If you are sure, we can likely place you
with your new best friend. We get many calls a week to surrender horses.
Thinking of buying at an auction?
You May get one cheaper, but has the horse your considering received all of the
care listed above? Have you had ample time to visit and work with the horse to make sure hes a good match?
Buyer Beware...many horses at the auction are on bute and
other masking medications. We will save you the heart ache...visit an auction by clicking below.
