Stable
Management
Update- this program
is presently not being offered due to the many horses coming in- we do not have the time to focus on training right now. Please
check back in the future.
Congratulations on your decision to improve your horsemanship skills! By taking
the program you may take as long as you like to learn the information and complete the course at your convience. One
of the first things you should do is begin to develop a library. On occasion you will discover that you are in a bind and
need a reference for a particular situation. The books listed in the right side of the page are excellent, comprehensive references
to their particular subject. I have tried to cover all areas of horse care and psychology into a short course for folks on
a limited budget. I suggest you spend the money to purchase the books listed, so you can have them for future use, rather
than just borrowing a library copy. Amazon.com sells used versions and you can often pick up a like new copy
for a fraction of the cost. You can also order them from other large retail bookstores, as they are not always on the shelf.
You will be given an outline to follow, to make sure you understand the subject
area. Most of the test information is covered in these books. It will be your job to follow the outline and demonstrate that
you are capable of performing the task required. You will need to preform your test and demonstrate with as much accuracy
and detail as you can about the items listed on the outline.
Once you are competant, we will be happy to offer you help writing your
resume to make you shine as the best possible candidate for a horse related job. The instructor will help you obtain addresses
of farms hiring Stable Managers after you have reached competancy and are ready to look for employment. There is no guarantee
that you will find employment in the exact field or state you are looking for. Listings are available in various states in
various fields, just like other employment. The object of learning stable management at Meadow Haven is to help volunteer,
while you become well rounded enough to suite any farm, raising any breed of horse, training for any discipline.
You will be the ultimate caregiver that owners want to hire.
If your interested in participating, please contact us to schedule.
So order your books and get a head start!

Stable Management ~ Hands On Program
This is an intensive program at the rescue geared for
young adults wanting to work in the horse industry. Animal Husbandry and ground training will be covered. Care, handling,
feeds and feeding, vetting your own horse (vaccinating and worming, etc.), bits and bitting, breaking to halter, starting
under saddle, and all aspects of caring for your stable, tack and animals will be covered. We can also help you with resume
assistance (instructor is also a certified English teacher), and job placement assistance upon completion. Hours may
be discussed to fit student's work schedule. High School seniors are encouraged to attend if they wish to work with horses
as a career.
Instructor is
certified with a BA degree in education, formerly a job placement counselor for the TX Workforce Center, Riding Instructor,
and Published Equine Author.
Student must be in good physical condition, have health insurance, and be
prepared to help with injured, abused, spooky, and untrained animals, and learn retraining techniques. On occasion some animals
need medical attention and so this course is not for the faint at heart. Dress appropriately with non slip shoes, and clothing
